Creating A Powerful Vision For Your Business
A vision is a clear, vivid and sharply focused picture of the business future you are seeking to create. It shows you exactly where you want to go, and what the destination will look and feel like when you get there.
Never underestimate the power of a vision as it is the driving force that will propel your business ever forward no matter what hurdles are strewn in your path, and every successful business leader, from the home-based solopreneur to the CEO who sits atop a multinational behemoth needs one.
The vision that you create should be specific, direct and simple, and resonate with everyone in your organisation. It must inspire them to do great things and they must be able to integrate it into everything they do.
To create your vision ask yourself the following questions:
What does my ideal business look like?
What kind of customers do I want to attract?
What kind of people will I be working with?
What problems are we going to solve?
Which countries do I want to do business in?
What kind of revenue level do I want to create?
What accomplishments do I want my business to be recognized for?
How will others (suppliers, customers, and the community) see my business?
How will we satisfy customer needs?
Write a Vision Statement
Write your vision statement in the present tense as if what you are creating has already happened. An example of a great vision statement comes from fast food chain McDonald’s:
“McDonald’s vision is to be the world’s best quick service restaurant experience. Being the best means providing outstanding quality, service, cleanliness, and value, so that we make every customer in every restaurant smile.”
Once you have come up with your vision statement don’t leave it to one side to gather dust on a shelf. Refer to it constantly and review it every month. It will help you to create a phenomenal business that you feel excited to be a part of.
