6 Things To Give Up If You Want To Be Successful
To be successful, there are in all likelihood, some things you will have to give up. Habits need to change, and things must happen to make way for the success you desire. You may have seen Sylvia Duckworth’s image of the Iceberg Illusion which sums up success so brilliantly. People will most often see the success of someone with realising the persistence, failure, disappointment, dedication and sacrifice that must be made behind the scenes to get there. If success if your ultimate goal, then you can start by giving up these six things.
Perfection
If you are aiming for perfection right off the bat then chances are you may never get started. That website does not have to be 100% perfect before you launch it and neither does that first blog post. Sometimes you just have to start work and then refine as you go along. Working for yourself is a huge learning curve and often it is just a case of starting and seeing what happens.
Negative Thinking
When things go wrong, and even when things are going right, it is very easy to fall into patterns of negative behaviour. This has to stop as negativity can really bring you down and stop you from doing what needs to be done. Surround yourself with those who inspire your positivity and help you remain on a positive course.
Comfort Zone
Think of your comfort zone as that soft, plump couch; a couch that is so great that you never want to leave it. Now remind yourself that nothing will happen if you continuously sit on that couch. You may be happy and comfortable but you will never achieve success by remaining in that zone. Practice being uncomfortable and pull yourself off that couch. Stretch yourself and push those boundaries so you can continue to grow and learn.
Multitasking
Multitasking is no significant achievement as all it means is that you are unable to devote 100% of your attention to the task at hand. To be successful, multitasking must remain at a minimum so you can be present and focused. When you multitask, errors occur and your efficiency decreases. Switch off the social media, turn off the phone and complete the task through to completion.
Fear of Failure
A fear of failure can stop you dead in your tracks even before you get started and it can be hard to escape from this kind of thinking. The truth is there is nothing wrong with failure as it means you were willing to try something new. Don’t let the fear of failure hold you back from moving forward. You will never succeed if you don’t even try. So stop making excuses and get on with it.
People Pleaser
If it is your intention to continuously please everyone around you, then you will struggle to get everything done. To be successful, compromises will have to be made and this will mean saying no to some people in order to move ahead with your plans. Not everyone will like it, but that’s okay. You need to be true to yourself and your goals and trust that you are doing the best thing for you and your business.
